I’m so relieved. I believe I might have made a new friend. Not just an acquaintance, nor a let’s-do-a-fun-activity-together kind of friend. I mean a life-changing, we’ve-got-each-other’s-back kind of friend.
Someone who makes me laugh. Someone I can feel comfortable being my quiet, thoughtful, yet sassy self with. I tend to love becoming besties with folks who are more expressive and outgoing because it means I can lean into their energy and not need to be the one to discern where the conversation is going. As a projector, it always feels good to have people in my life who love me for me, see my quiet magnetic brilliance, and constantly coax me out of my shell. They are the spirited warriors who will fight for me, just as I find I do for others. The most important part of people I feel a deep connection with is that though they may fill up spaces, they also know how to pause, ask thoughtful questions, invite me to share my personal thoughts on intimate subjects, and allow me to shine in my own way.
I made a new friend.
At the age of 47, this has been one of the hardest things to do, and I am going to celebrate with you today.

I’ve been diving deep into the world of adult ADHD. As the spouse of a loved one who was recently diagnosed, we’ve been learning so much. I just finished listening to Ologies with Alie Ward and her guest, Dr. Russell Barkley. Right after listening, I reserved his two books at the library and read through them: Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder: A Handbook for Diagnosis and Treatment + When an Adult You Love Has ADHD: Professional Advice for Parents, Partners, and Siblings
After speaking with my new friend, I also spent two hours last night watching Taylor Swift on the New Heights podcast with her partner, Travis Kelce, and his brother. Um—there were so many nuggets of thoughtful wisdom that I may need to go back, write some of them down, and bring them into discussion.
